The Officer Involved Incident Task Force is investigating an officer-involved shooting.
The Officer Involved Incident Task Force is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2026, during an ongoing narcotics investigation.
Metro Narcotics Agents had been conducting surveillance on a subject as part of that investigation. The subject was located in the 2300 block of Lohman Avenue, near McDonald’s, where agents attempted to make contact. Shots were subsequently fired during that interaction.
The suspect, a 45-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A firearm in the suspect’s possession was recovered.
No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation. No further information is available at this time. Las Cruces police anticipate holding a news conference on this incident once more information is confirmed, and once witness interviews are completed.
The Officer-Involved Incident Task Force includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police. The task force gathers facts in the case and presents those facts to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
