District also celebrates another zero-findings audit
Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) is proud to announce that it has received the prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), recognizing the district’s commitment to excellence in financial planning and transparency.
This national award represents a significant achievement for LCPS and reflects the dedication of their Board of Education and Finance Division to meeting the highest standards in governmental budgeting. To earn this distinction, LCPS’s budget was evaluated against rigorous, nationally recognized criteria and rated “proficient” in all required categories.
The GFOA guidelines assess how effectively a budget serves as:
- A policy document
- A financial plan
- An operations guide
- A communications tool
LCPS successfully met all fourteen mandatory criteria within these four categories, demonstrating a transparent and student-centered approach to financial management.
In addition to this national recognition, the LCPS Finance Division recently received a zero-finding audit, meaning independent auditors found no material issues or deficiencies in the district’s financial practices. This rare distinction further underscores the strength, accuracy, and accountability of LCPS’s financial systems.
“This is a great achievement for our district,” noted Chenyu “Alex” Liu, Deputy Superintendent of Finance for LCPS. “We are fully committed to maximum transparency, community collaboration, and student success.”
What this means for LCPS families
For parents and families, these recognitions provide confidence that LCPS is a responsible steward of public funds. Earning national budget honors and achieving a zero-finding audit means:
- District resources are carefully planned and aligned to support student learning
- Financial decisions are transparent and held to the highest standards
- Taxpayer dollars are being managed responsibly and efficiently
- Schools can continue to invest in programs, staff, and opportunities that benefit students
LCPS joins more than 1,900 participants in the GFOA Budget Awards Program, serving as a model for excellence in public education finance.
