The Las Cruces Police Department’s Traffic Unit issued 64 citations during a one-hour enforcement operation held Thursday morning on roads near area high schools.
The operation, held simultaneously along heavily travelled roads near the four public high schools in Las Cruces, was conducted to help remind motorists that students have returned to classes for the spring semester.
The 64 citations included 30 for speeding, 17 for having no vehicle registration and 11 for driving without proof of insurance.
Other citations were for driving without a license and miscellaneous traffic offenses.
The traffic enforcement operation began about 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, and lasted about one hour. LCPD will likely hold similar traffic enforcement operations in the coming weeks.
