Las Cruces police are investigating two separate crashes – one fatal – that involved pedestrians and occurred within an eight-hour span.
The fatal crash occurred just before 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, near the 500 block of south Telshor Boulevard. Police were dispatched after a Ford F-150 pickup struck a 54-year-old woman in a northbound lane of traffic.
The 54-year-old pedestrian was transported to Memorial Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. Police will not release her name until next of kin have been properly notified.
The driver of the pickup, a 55-year-old woman, remained on scene and was cooperative with police. The initial investigation indicates the pedestrian was walking east-to-west across Telshor and was not in a marked crosswalk.
Then, about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, police responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash on Triviz Drive just south of Spruce Avenue.
Investigators learned a 74-year-old man was struck by a Chevrolet Cavalier that had just turned southbound onto Triviz from Spruce Avenue. The driver of the Cavelier, a 67-year-old woman, remained on scene and was cooperative with police.
Police believe the pedestrian was in the roadway just south of the intersection and not in a marked crosswalk. He was conscious and able to speak with officers before he was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso. He remains in critical condition at UMC.
In both incidents, the pedestrians were believed to be on the roadway and not on a marked crosswalk.
At this time, police do not anticipate charges against either of the drivers.
