Las Cruces police have positively identified the victim from last week’s train collision as 46-year-old Manuel Jose Aguirre.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, police and fire were dispatched to the report of a man who was struck by a northbound BNSF train near the 1700 block of south Main Street. First responders arrived to find the man unresponsive with multiple injuries.
The man, identified as Manuel Jose Aguirre, was declared deceased on the scene.
Police believe Aguirre was walking north on the railroad tracks and failed to heed audible warnings from the northbound train.
The on-site investigation forced the stoppage of the train and caused traffic at two railroad crossings to temporarily divert to other intersections.
