With the fall semester fast approaching for local students, the Las Cruces Police Department is accepting applications for school crossing guards who work about two hours a day on a contract basis.
LCPD places crossing guards at all elementary and middle schools in Las Cruces. The school crossing guards provide safety for students and community members, enforce crosswalk functions and procedures, and help students at crosswalks and school properties.
The crossing guards work on contracts and are paid $17 per crossing, $34 per day, in their first year. Second-year crossing guards early $18 per crossing or 36 per day. Crossing guards normally work two hours per day, one hour for each morning and afternoon crossing.
The academic year includes 180 school days.
Serving as a school crossing guard is a rewarding opportunity for retirees or individuals who wish to earn an income for only 10 hours of work per week.
Applicants are subject to an intensive background check and must be able to work in various weather conditions.
