Doña Ana County, NM – The Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office, led by Clerk Dr. Amanda López Askin, is proud to announce a groundbreaking advancement in election transparency and security. In partnership with Civera, Doña Ana County will be the first in New Mexico to offer visual round-by-round results for ranked-choice voting (RCV), enhancing transparency and voter understanding of the tabulation process.
This innovative system will include Ballot Verifier and ElectionShield—cutting-edge tools that empower voters, observers, and election officials to verify scanned images of ballots independently, and visualize RCV outcomes. These features reinforce Doña Ana County’s position as a leader in transparent and accessible elections.
The Clerk’s Office is also committed to accessibility, with plans to implement Spanish-language translation for the round-by-round RCV display. While this feature will require careful planning and scoping based on factors like the extent of narrative content, the goal is to ensure that all voters, regardless of language, can fully engage in the democratic process.
Project development will span approximately six to eight months, with the goal of integrating these tools in time for the 2026 Primary Election. The Clerk’s Office is also exploring opportunities to have the RCV round-by-round display ready for the November 4, 2025, Local Election, pending final scoping and timelines.
“Our office has always prioritized the security, accuracy, and transparency of elections,” said County Clerk Dr. Amanda López Askin. “These new tools represent a major step forward for accessibility and security. I want to sincerely thank Board of County Commission Chair Christopher Schaljo-Hernandez and County Manager Scott Andrews for their strong support and commitment to our office and elections in Doña Ana County. This project is a testament to how county government and elected offices can work together for the benefit of our community.”
Tools like Ballot Verifier are transforming election integrity nationwide. Doña Ana County’s investment in these systems solidifies its position as a statewide leader and national example in modern, and transparent elections.
