Governor Richardson’s Statement Regarding Federa

Date: 7/28/10

72210GovernorBill.jpg

SANTA FE-Governor Bill Richardson today released the following statement regarding U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton’s ruling blocking parts of Arizona’s Immigration Law.

“Judge Bolton made the right decision in striking down most of Arizona’s unconstitutional law. However, this is just a temporary victory and the beginning of a long, protracted battle that could end up in the U.S. Supreme Court.

“This ruling should be a signal to both opponents and supporters of the Arizona law that working together on a comprehensive federal immigration plan—that includes increased border security, cracking down on illegal hires and an accountable path to legalization for the eleven million undocumented workers here—is the only solution.

“While this shouldn’t be a partisan issue, Republicans who continue to block efforts for comprehensive reform and Democrats who drag their feet will see the consequences at the polls.

Finally, I hope this ruling will also stop other states from pursuing similar misguided legislation”

Chemical elements found Wednesday morning in two plastic bottles behind a Las Cruces business have been safely removed by the Dona Ana County Bomb Squad.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, two men clearing trash and weeds a short distance behind the Ashley Home Furniture store, at 3299 Del Rey Blvd., located the plastic bottles that appeared to contain a crystal-like substance. One of the workers tossed a bottle and it disintegrated upon impact with the ground.

Emergency personnel believe a chemical reaction inside the plastic bottles caused the material to burst. There were no injuries reported but the chemical could have caused some damages if the bottles had been handled in a different manner.

Las Cruces Police are encouraging residents to use caution when dealing with potentially bogus door-to-door sales people who claim to be selling home security systems. Residents of a High Range neighborhood have reported a pair of door-to-door solicitors who have become argumentative with homeowners who refuse to talk with them. A handful of homeowners have reported that the solicitors claim to be representing a home security business and have asked in-depth questions about current alarm or security systems. Las Cruces Police are suggesting that residents refrain from providing personal and financial information to door-to-door solicitors or any solicitors who arrive at your doorstep uninvited. Furthermore, residents should always exercise. If you see these men you can call 911 to report them.

According to Sheriff’s Investigators at approximately 6:00 p.m. Saturday, evening, July 24, it was reported by a member of a four-wheeling group that one of the parties’ vehicles had rolled down the side of the mountain and they were not able to get to the victim.

The caller, because he was not able to give an exact location, was located three hours later after the Search and Rescue party “pinged” his GPS location by way of the caller’s cellular telephone.

Due to inclement weather and terrain, investigators, when the Search Party made contact with the Victim at 9:00 p.m., were not able to recover and extract the body and returned the following morning at 6:00 a.m. reaching the body at approximately 11:00 a.m.

A Dona Ana County Mounted Patrol Officer secured the scene until the following morning.

State Police Search and Rescue team members recovered and extracted the Victim from the crash location.

The Victim has been identified as CLAUDE LENDERMAN, age 50, of the 3500 block Haines Road, Las Cruces.

Investigation revealed that LENDERMAN had been ejected from the jeep and was found approximately 100 yards from where the jeep came to rest on its side.

via-Press Release

RANDY MALONE, age 47, was arrested by Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Deputies on Sunday, July 25, at his residence after Sheriff’s Deputies, were notified by his brothers, of his location.

Sheriff’s Deputies, when they came in contact with MALONE, found MALONE lying on the couch tending to his injuries; burns, he reported to two different law enforcement agencies as a result of losing a drinking bet.

A Sheriff’s Supervisor, when he observed the seriousness of the burns to MALONE’S upper right leg, called the on-call Magistrate Judge, Ken Wingenroth.

Judge Wingenroth allowed Sheriff’s Deputies to serve the Warrant, minus the detention, due to the fact that MALONE’S injuries would have first required that he be hospitalized before being allowed to be incarcerated.

MALONE was walking with the aid of a “Walker.”

MALONE will be summons into Court at a later date by the Magistrate Court.

MALONE, according to a Sheriff’s Supervisor, was calm and had no reaction when notified about the warrant for his arrest.

Sheriff’s Investigators learned from a witness that MALONE had placed a lit “crack” pipe in his pocket causing his trousers to set on fire, as well as his right prosthetic leg, on July 5.

MALONE was found naked, except for his shoes, on the overpass at Del Rey Boulevard and subsequently transported to a burn unit in Lubbock, Texas.

Date: 7/28/10

via-Press Release

Washington, DC – Continuing his fight for a border security funding surge, today Congressman Harry Teague introduced a bill that would provide critical border security resources stripped out of the Supplemental Appropriations Act by the Senate. Teague, joined by Representatives Ciro Rodriguez (D-TX), Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) and David Price (D-NC), introduced HR 5875 to help keep drug violence in Mexico from spilling over in to the United States and to combat illegal trafficking activities across our border.

The legislation mirrors funding originally passed by the House in the Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2010, before being eliminated from the legislation by the Senate. The package bolsters funding for border security efforts, including additional Border Patrol agents and other border enforcement officials, additional resources for local law enforcement agencies located near the border, new forward operating bases for the Border Patrol in New Mexico’s Bootheel, and more law enforcement resources to fight drug smuggling and the spillover of drug violence into the U.S.
