Congratulations to Kevin McGrath and the Committee of the The Burger Time "Sandra B. McGrath" Golf Tournament. Last week, the tournament played out at Sonoma Ranch Golf Course with local golfers enduring the summer heat for a good cause. McGrath and the Burger Time helped raise a record $284,000 for Las Cruces Public Schools athletics programs.
The Burger Time tournament funds all high school sports and activities including prep football at Mayfield under head coach Jim Bradley, Onate with Tommy Essex and Las Cruces coach Don Rezac. "I just think the community sees the results," McGrath said. "There have been 17 appearances in the state championship game and that is just in football. Once they saw what their dollar was being used for, they wanted to continue to support it."
In the past 20 years, the tournament has raised over $2 million for local high school athletes. "If you don't give these kids a chance to succeed on the field, then a lot of them wouldn't even be in the classroom," McGrath said. "The committee takes great pride in helping athletes stay in the classroom because if they weren't getting the job done in the classroom, they wouldn't be on the football field."
As a Sponsor, Radio of Las Cruces (KGRT 104 / HOT 103 / KKVS La Gran D 98.7 / KSNM 570) fielded a golf team with Ernesto Garcia, Johnny Montes, Ed Carnathan, and Jay Sanderson. The Radio team was proud to bring in a first place score.
